Hello, and welcome to the official blog of Tirranna Foundation! My name is Lady-Leslie Brew, and I am honored to introduce you to the journey that has brought us here. This is our very first blog post, and while we may not have any projects to showcase just yet, I’m excited to share the heart and vision behind the Tirranna Foundation and the impact we aim to make in Ghana.
The Spark That Lit the Flame
As a second-generation Ghanaian-American, I grew up hearing my parents’ stories of resilience and perseverance. Born in Ghana, they faced immense challenges in their youth—struggles that shaped who they are today and paved the way for the opportunities I was fortunate enough to enjoy. Their stories stayed with me, stirring a deep appreciation for my roots and a desire to give back to the country that shaped my family’s strength.
In 2017, I traveled to Ghana as an adult for the first time. That trip changed my life. I met a group of volunteers who visited orphanages each month, providing food, clothing, and support for children who had no one else to rely on. Witnessing the vulnerability of these children, yet also their resilience and potential, awakened something within me.
Since then, I’ve returned to Ghana every year, assisting with these visits and eventually organizing my own. Each experience deepened my connection to the children and strengthened my resolve to do more. These children, especially those in orphanages, often grow up with no advocates, no support, and no opportunities to build a better future. I knew I wanted to change that.
The Birth of Tirranna Foundation
Tirranna Foundation was born from the desire to be a source of hope and empowerment for Ghana’s underserved youth. While the needs across the country are vast, my heart has always been drawn to children in orphanages—those who often have no one to stand by them.
At Tirranna, we believe in creating opportunities that address not just immediate needs but also long-term growth. Our programs are designed to support literacy, vocational training, creative expression, physical health, and essential resources like clean water.
Here’s a quick look at the programs we’re building:
- Letters4U Program: Improving literacy and life skills for children through reading, writing, and financial literacy instruction.
- Job Corps Program: Providing vocational training in trades such as cooking, hairstyling, mechanics, and IT to prepare youth for meaningful careers.
- Youth Choir: Nurturing creativity and confidence by creating a choir of talented youth who perform locally and, eventually, internationally.
- Sports Center Program: Encouraging teamwork and physical fitness through sports like swimming, track, basketball, and table tennis.
- Running Waters Program: Commissioning boreholes to provide clean water to remote communities, improving health and hygiene for children and families.
Each program reflects our commitment to empowering children, equipping them with tools for self-sufficiency, and building a brighter future.
Why This Matters
This journey isn’t just about providing services; it’s about creating a movement. It’s about showing every child, no matter their circumstances, that they are seen, valued, and capable of achieving great things.
We know the challenges ahead won’t be easy, but I believe in the power of community and collaboration. Tirranna Foundation is not just my dream—it’s a collective mission for anyone who believes in uplifting the next generation, creating equal opportunities, and making a difference where it’s needed most.
Join Us on This Journey
As we take our first steps, I invite you to be part of this journey. Whether it’s through volunteering, donating, or simply sharing our vision, every action helps us get closer to our goal.
This blog will be a space where we share updates, stories from the field, and the impact we’re creating together. While we may not have work to show just yet, this is just the beginning of something transformative.
Thank you for believing in this mission. Together, we can plant seeds of hope that will grow into a brighter, stronger future for Ghana’s youth.
With gratitude,
Lady-Leslie Brew
